Breasts are one of the biggest symbols of femininity, and pride and confidence in one’s breasts reduce anxiety and insecurity. How Does a Breast Lift Work?

Not all successful breast surgeries involve implants. If your breasts have lost elasticity because of pregnancy and nursing, significant weight loss, genetics, or aging, a breast lift may be exactly what you need to redefine your chest’s profile and restore youthful, perky breasts. Implants may enhance your results, but the simple lift alone can do wonders to build your confidence.

The lift is performed on an outpatient basis with general anesthesia. Dr. Mark Craig determines the best way to perform your lift, but the most common uses three incisions. The first circles the areola for access to your breast tissue as well as proper positioning of the nipple. The second descends from the bottom of the areola to the inframammary fold to tighten lax skin and reshape the breast. The third runs along the curve of the inframammary fold to aid in reshaping the fat pads and positioning breast tissue for the best contour. Adding an augmentation to your procedure provides a little more versatility for Dr. Craig in lifting and shaping your breasts.

Am I a Good Candidate?

Women who are self-conscious of the elasticity of the skin of their breasts, or who are unhappy with the position of their breasts due to pregnancy and breastfeeding or weight loss may be candidates for a breast lift.  Get started with a consultation at Accent Plastic & Reconstructive Surgery.

What is the Procedure Like?

Each breast lift is unique to the individual patient, so it is difficult to summarize the procedure exactly, but generally, breast lifts take between 1-3 hours, and patients will go home the same day. Your procedure may involve stitches deep in the breast tissue to hold them in place, and Dr. Craig will determine the best closure for your incisions, such as stitches or skin glue.

How Long is Recovery from a Breast Lift?

Your breasts will be bruised and swollen, and you will experience discomfort around the incisions at first. A surgical bra provides support and holds bandages in place, and you will need to recuperate for 1-2 weeks. Many women find ways to reintroduce normal routines into their recovery as their bodies allow, and some are even able to return to work after just 1 week. Avoid lifting more than 10-15 pounds for a few weeks, and take extra care if raising your arms above shoulder height for 2-3 weeks.

What Results Can I Expect?

While it will take several weeks for your breasts to fully settle into their new positioning, they will be more firmly positioned on your chest wall, and your nipples will be properly centered. Your shirts will fit better, and you will experience a boost of confidence in your appearance. No more sagging, stretch marks, or downward-pointing nipples. Just full, lush, shapely breasts positioned properly for an attractive silhouette you can be proud of.

“I had a wonderful experience with Dr. Craig and his staff! Loved the fact that he told me upfront not to expect perfection, as I am 55 and that a tummy tuck and breast lift wouldn’t put me back to 16, but the results were fantastic! I couldn’t be more satisfied, I highly recommend Dr. Craig, very kind man and has a great sense of humor! ” *
