Learn More About PRP Injections

PRP, or platelet-rich plasma, is a treatment that utilizes your own platelets to promote skin rejuvenation and hair growth. The process involves our nurse drawing a small amount of blood, processing it to concentrate the platelets, and then Dr. Craig injecting the PRP into the targeted area. Blood is drawn and then spun to separate the plasma, which is rich in growth factors and platelets. These growth factors are believed to rejuvenate the treated area.

The benefits of PRP include skin rejuvenation, hair growth stimulation, improved hair thickness and health, wrinkle reduction, scar improvement, and enhanced skin tone and texture—all resulting in natural-looking outcomes.

To prepare for your PRP treatment, stay well-hydrated to facilitate the blood draw. Dr. Craig also recommends avoiding blood thinners and sun exposure, maintaining a regular and gentle skincare routine, and arriving with clean skin.

PRP injections include a series of three treatments that are 30 days apart. Following your third treatment, you will follow up yearly unless you prefer another treatment before then.

The PRP procedure typically takes 30 minutes to an hour, depending on the treatment area. The process includes drawing blood, which takes about 15 minutes, followed by centrifugation to separate the platelets.

Our nurse or medical assistant will apply a topical numbing cream to reduce discomfort. After the blood is processed, the platelet-rich plasma is either injected into the target area by Dr. Craig or applied topically by your aesthetician, often following microneedling for enhanced results.

PRP has very few side effects since it uses your own blood. Common issues may include bruising at the blood draw site or injection area. Other potential side effects are scalp irritation, temporary pain, swelling, and a slight risk of infection.

After your PRP treatment, avoid swimming, strenuous activities, sun exposure, and touching or washing the treated area. Stay hydrated and use gentle hair care. Follow Dr. Craig’s post-treatment care instructions for the best results.

The longevity of PRP results varies by individual and the treated area. Generally, effects can last from several months to a year, with most patients seeing results for about three to six months.
