Ask Dr. Craig a Question

Matrix Fractional CO2 Skin Resurfacing

As we age, our collagen begins to diminish. Gravity, diet, and other environmental factors can influence collagen production and skin laxity. Eventually, the skin’s underlying support structure begins to breakdown. Daily exposure to the sun’s UV rays will cause our skin to become discolored and premature wrinkles to ultimately emerge. The Matrix Fractional CO2 laser will enhance the skin’s strength and elasticity, create a smoother, tighter texture, as well as help diminish pigmentation problems.

The technology

laser skin resurfacingDr. Craig utilizes the Sandstone Fractional CO2 laser. This device utilizes a high speed Ultra-Fine Fractional Scanner that directs tiny pulses of light in a grid pattern on the skin. Each pulse delivers a column of energy that reaches the skin’s dermal layer, helping to stimulate a natural renewal process of the body’s own collagen. Since the laser beam is fractionalized, small areas of untreated skin are left between the treated spots. By strategically performing the procedure in this way, the healing process is accelerated. This creates extra collagen, reducing wrinkles, fine lines, stretch marks, burns, and scars.

Fractional skin resurfacing is a safe and effective procedure for almost any skin type. Fractional resurfacing can be applied to most areas of the body and Dr. Craig will adjust the settings specific to your skin type. The treatment takes less than 30 minutes, depending on the area being treated.

Some patients will experience a warm sharp feeling and immediate tightening of the skin, depending on your level of pain tolerance. Most patients look and feel as though they developed a mild sunburn for a few days following the treatment. This feeling will eventually subside during the healing process. Anesthetic ointments and cooling devices may be used to help reduce any discomfort during and after the procedure.

The recovery

Depending on the desired outcome, post-treatment care varies from patient to patient. Most patients who have a full facial skin rejuvenation treatment will need to stay indoors for a few days while applying a topical ointment as directed by the Laser Technician. Skin resurfacing is a great alternative to corrective surgery as it helps to improve skin tone and texture, as well as boost collagen production, with minimal downtime.
