As people age, the effects of gravity, exposure to the sun, and the stresses of daily life can be seen on their faces. Deep creases often form between the nose and mouth. Skin begins to sag mid-face as well as in the lower face, creating jowls.
A face lift, or a brow lift, can help rejuvenate your face, correct sagging skin, improve a furrowed brow, and smooth deep wrinkles and creases.
A face lift, also known as a rhytidectomy, cannot stop the aging process. However, it can “turn back the clock,” improving the most visible signs of aging by removing excess fat, tightening underlying muscles, and re-draping the skin of your face and neck. A face lift can be performed alone or in conjunction with other procedures such as forehead lift, eyelid surgery, or nose re-shaping.
Dr. Craig will sometimes perform fat injections at the time of the face lift. He also highly recommends that our patients go through a skin transforming treatment, such as Obagi® as skin care, prior to the procedure.
The best candidate for a face lift is a man or woman whose face and neck have begun to sag, but whose skin still has some elasticity and whose bone structure is strong and well-defined. Most ideal patients are in their forties to sixties, but face lifts can also be performed successfully on people in their seventies or eighties as well.
During your recovery, a Dr. Craig may ask you to wear a bandage on your face to help minimize swelling and bruising. Individual recovery times may vary, especially if you are having multiple procedures performed. However, you can expect to at least a week to go out in public without any bruises. You will want to also refrain from any strenuous activity for at least three weeks as well. Dr. Craig will walk you through what to expect and provide pain medication as needed.
