Why a Dermal Filler Certification Matters:

These days, it seems as though you can undergo a dermal filler treatment from anyone who offers them.  Medical spas, aesthetic centers, and even hair salons are getting into the dermal filler game by offering their clients the promise of facial rejuvenation with just a quick treatment session.

But before you make an appointment with one of these practices, consider this – if you undergo a dermal filler treatment from a professional without certification, you’re putting yourself at serious risk.

A dermal filler certification shows that a medical professional has gone through rigorous training in order to produce the best results possible.  After all, dermal fillers aren’t just injections; when performed correctly, they can subtly enhance a person’s facial features, add youthful volume, and even facial imbalances that might otherwise need surgery to correct.  That’s why it’s so important to work with a professional who knows precisely where to place dermal filler injections for the best results.

At Accent Plastic & Reconstructive Surgery in Tupelo, MS, board certified plastic surgeon Dr. Mark Craig is a highly trained dermal filler expert.  Dr. Craig approaches dermal fillers with the same care and attention as he would a client undergoing a major surgery.  His ultimate goal is to listen to each patient and discuss how dermal fillers can address their specific needs.

Dr. Craig has grown Accent Plastic & Reconstructive Surgery into one of the top providers of dermal filler injections in the state of Mississippi.  Dr. Craig is so experienced with fillers that he has also been named to the Medical Advisory Board for Allergan, a pharmaceutical company that makes Botox, Juvederm, Volbella, Vollure, and Voluma. Dr. Craig has also been asked to participate in numerous Juvederm trials.

Botox: Who Is Too Young to Get It?

photodune-1792859-beautiful-healthy-woman-touching-her-skin-middle-aged-xsIf you have a suspicion that Botox is one of the most popular cosmetic treatments in the country, you’d be right – millions of people get Botox every year, with the number only steadily rising.  Surprisingly, the Botox boom isn’t just limited to older people with wrinkles and fine lines; many women and men in their 20s are getting Botox as part of a preventative anti-aging regimen.

While there’s compelling evidence to support that starting an early regimen of Botox can help stave off wrinkles a little while longer, it does bring up an interesting question:

How young is too young to get Botox?

It’s Not Always About Age

First, the short answer: Since the safety & effectiveness in patients younger than 18 is not established, we would not treat a patient who is younger than 18.

Other than that, there’s no particular age when you’re too young to get Botox.  Instead of using age as a gauge for your Botox candidacy, you should instead take a cue from any lines or wrinkles that might already be forming on your face.

Botox is commonly used to treat static lines, which are the lines and wrinkles that form as a result of repeated and dynamic facial expressions (such as crow’s feet, laugh lines, forehead frown lines, etc.).  While skin creams can help keep your skin moisturized, they can’t exactly stop the formation of these deep wrinkles.

That’s precisely where Botox comes in.  Injections of Botox can help inhibit the formation of these wrinkles, especially around the eyes and along the forehead.   Younger clients who are looking to prevent wrinkles typically need less Botox than older clients.

If you’re looking to undergo Botox treatments as a preventative measure against the formation of wrinkles and fine lines, it’s important to work with an experienced professional.  Since you will need less Botox, a Plastic Surgeon uses a conservative touch and artistic eye that ensures you prevent wrinkles without developing a “frozen” look.

If that is exactly what you are looking for, then it is time to schedule a consultation with Dr. Mark Craig at Accent Plastic Surgery in Tupelo, Mississippi.  Call (662) 377 – 6290 for more information.

Will Voluma Make My Cheeks Fat?

If you’re looking for the most naturally youthful appearance possible, it’s likely you’ve stumbled across Juvederm Voluma during your research.  As we age, the face loses essential fats that are critical to maintaining youthful volume in the cheeks.  The end result is a hollow, drooping look that can’t be fixed with any anti-wrinkle cream or Botox injection.

That’s why more people are turning to Juvederm Voluma for younger-looking results that look incredibly natural.  Yet many people are afraid to introduce Voluma into their anti-aging regimen for one reason: they’re afraid it might make their cheeks look fat.

So does Voluma increase facial volume in an unflattering way – or will your cheeks look smooth and healthy?  Let’s find out!

All About Juvederm Voluma

This innovative treatment – which was recently approved by the FDA – is used to enhance volume and contouring in the facial area, particularly around the cheeks.  Voluma is comprised of a thicker hyaluronic acid gel; hyaluronic acid is a compound found naturally within the skin, which promotes the production of collagen and elastin.

Once injected into the cheeks, the thicker consistency of the gel is used to immediately increase the cheeks, promoting a more youthful look.  Results typically last for up to two years, which makes this one of the most low-maintenance anti-aging injections around.  What’s more, it has little to no side effects, which is one of the reasons why it was approved by the FDA.

But the question remains: Will it make your cheeks – and your face – look fat?

It Depends!

Like with most anti-aging treatments, your results will depend upon the professional who is administering the treatments.  For example, if an aesthetician is too heavy-handed with a Botox treatment, you might end up with the “frozen” face that’s a dead giveaway of Botox.  The same rule of thumb applies with Juvederm Voluma – if it’s administered by anyone other than a professional, you might not get the results you’re looking for.

That’s why you should entrust your face to Dr. Mark Craig of Accent Plastic & Reconstructive Surgery in Tupelo, Mississippi.  As a board-certified plastic surgeon, Dr. Craig has the insight, experience, and subtle touch that can help produce the most natural-looking results.
