The thin, flexible skin around your eyes often reveals signs of aging before the rest of your face. Drooping eyelids or puffy undereye bags can leave you looking tired no matter how much sleep you get. Blepharoplasty treats the eyelid areas to restore bright, youthful-looking eyes

What is Blepharoplasty or an Eyelid Lift?

Blepharoplasty is a procedure performed on the upper or lower eyelids to achieve eyes that look wider and more alert. Also called an eyelid lift, blepharoplasty is a powerful way to rejuvenate the entire face. You can have blepharoplasty on the upper or lower eyelids or have both treated in one surgery. Dr. Mark Craig performs blepharoplasty at Accent Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery. He has extensive experience in helping people achieve younger-looking eyes.

How Does Blepharoplasty Work?

Dr. Craig performs blepharoplasty using small incisions hidden under the eyelashes or in a skin crease. When healed, these incisions will be nearly invisible. During an upper eyelid lift, Dr. Craig will tighten loose skin and remove fatty tissue. During a lower eyelid lift, he may remove or reposition skin, fat, and muscle to eliminate puffiness and bags. Surgery to treat the upper and lower eyelids usually takes about two hours. The details of the procedure will vary depending on your individual needs.

How Long Does Blepharoplasty Last?

An eyelid lift is a long-lasting procedure, and many people only have it done once. Others may choose to have a touch-up procedure in the future as signs of aging progress. You can expect your blepharoplasty results to last at least ten to fifteen years. Using high-quality skincare products designed for the eye area will keep your eyes looking youthful for longer. The eye area also requires diligent sun protection to keep it looking young.

What is Recovery Like From an Eyelid Lift?

While each person’s healing process is different, most people will experience swelling and bruising after the procedure. In about a week, you may see a reduction in bruising, but swelling may last a few weeks. Dr. Craig will discuss when you can return to work based on your activity level at work and your social comfort. You will need to wear sunglasses during the healing process to protect your eyes from light, wind, and debris.

Am I a Good Candidate for Blepharoplasty?

Good candidates for blepharoplasty have concerns about their upper or lower eyelids and want to see long-lasting improvements. Candidates should be in good health and have reasonable expectations. You might not be a good candidate if you have an eye infection or medical condition. Dr. Craig will examine your eyes and determine whether an eyelid lift is right for you.

“Dr. Craig has performed surgery on me several times. He is the best doctor and the best surgeon. I have complete trust in him. His office staff are not only the most profesisonal, but also the kindest.”
