If you have facial expressions, you will eventually develop expression lines and wrinkles. Also called dynamic wrinkles, they happen when the muscles under the skin pull and crease it. You can smooth away these lines and wrinkles with Botox®. This anti-wrinkle injectable lets you look younger and more relaxed.

What is Botox®?

Botox® treats mild to moderate lines and wrinkles that come from facial expressions. The FDA has also approved it to treat hyperhidrosis or excessive sweating. Botox® uses botulinum toxin to stop nerves from sending signals to muscles. It allows the targeted muscles to relax and lets the skin become smooth. At Accent Plastic & Reconstructive Surgery, Dr. Craig administers Botox® himself for optimal results

How Does Botox® Work?

Botox® is injected into the targeted muscles, where it blocks the nerve from sending signals to the muscle. The muscle stops pulling on the skin, so the lines and wrinkles disappear. When used to treat hyperhidrosis, Botox® targets the nerves that trigger overactive sweat glands. Botox® causes no permanent changes or damage to the nerves or muscles.

How Long Does Botox® Last?

Botox® results will usually last three to four months. Many people choose to have regular Botox® sessions to maintain their youthful results. As a bonus, during the time that Botox® prevents the target muscles from moving, your lines and wrinkles will not progress. Younger people may have Botox® to prevent signs of aging from making an appearance.

Where Can I Have Botox®?

Botox® has medical uses all over the body, including the treatment of hyperhidrosis. When used for lines and wrinkles, Botox® is FDA-approved for use on:

  • Horizontal forehead lines
  • Vertical lines or “11’s” between the eyebrows
  • Crow’s feet around the eyes

Botox® works even in very delicate areas, and its action is exact. It even works to stop muscle spasms in the tiny muscles that move the eyelid. Dr. Craig will inject Botox® at precise depths to reach the target muscles while leaving others unaffected. You will retain all your natural facial expressions but with fewer lines and wrinkles.

Am I a Good Candidate for Botox®?

You may be a good candidate if you have moderate to severe dynamic lines and wrinkles. You should not have Botox® if you are pregnant or breastfeeding. You may not be a good candidate if you have certain neuromuscular medical conditions. Good candidates for hyperhidrosis treatment have tried other sweat control methods and continue to have excessive sweating.

Is There Any Downtime With Botox®?

You might have some redness or swelling for a short time after the injections. Some people have some minor bruising. You can resume normal activities right after treatment, including going back to work.
