Why a Dermal Filler Certification Matters:

These days, it seems as though you can undergo a dermal filler treatment from anyone who offers them.  Medical spas, aesthetic centers, and even hair salons are getting into the dermal filler game by offering their clients the promise of facial rejuvenation with just a quick treatment session.

But before you make an appointment with one of these practices, consider this – if you undergo a dermal filler treatment from a professional without certification, you’re putting yourself at serious risk.

A dermal filler certification shows that a medical professional has gone through rigorous training in order to produce the best results possible.  After all, dermal fillers aren’t just injections; when performed correctly, they can subtly enhance a person’s facial features, add youthful volume, and even facial imbalances that might otherwise need surgery to correct.  That’s why it’s so important to work with a professional who knows precisely where to place dermal filler injections for the best results.

At Accent Plastic & Reconstructive Surgery in Tupelo, MS, board certified plastic surgeon Dr. Mark Craig is a highly trained dermal filler expert.  Dr. Craig approaches dermal fillers with the same care and attention as he would a client undergoing a major surgery.  His ultimate goal is to listen to each patient and discuss how dermal fillers can address their specific needs.

Dr. Craig has grown Accent Plastic & Reconstructive Surgery into one of the top providers of dermal filler injections in the state of Mississippi.  Dr. Craig is so experienced with fillers that he has also been named to the Medical Advisory Board for Allergan, a pharmaceutical company that makes Botox, Juvederm, Volbella, Vollure, and Voluma. Dr. Craig has also been asked to participate in numerous Juvederm trials.

Just Say No to Botox Parties

-Gross-Pointe-MILooking for a great theme or activity for your next big bash?  If you’re thinking of offering your guests the chance to experience Botox from the comfort of your home, repeat after us: “Just say no to Botox parties.”

Thanks to reality TV shows like “Keeping Up With the Kardashians” and “Real Housewives,” many people have been introduced to the concept of the Botox party.  Think of it as the Tupperware party for the 21st-centruy: an aesthetic consultant “hosts” the party and provides Botox injections to guests.  Usually the party host pays for the cost of Botox injections at a discounted rate.

Sounds like a great version of a spa party, right?

Actually, Botox parties can be incredibly dangerous.  Although Botox is an easy and popular treatment, it still needs to be administered by an experienced and knowledgeable professional.  Ideally, you want a plastic surgeon administering your Botox, as they’ll be handling needles near your face.

Speaking of which, Botox parties can be incredibly unsanitary.  There’s no guarantee that you’re getting the cleanest treatment; what’s more, the environment you’re receiving the injection in might not be 100% sterile.

When in the right hands, Botox can do a lot for you.  It can help diminish strong lines and wrinkles on the forehead, lift your eyebrows, and even help with severe sweating problems.  But in the hands of the wrong person, it’s very easy to get the dreaded “frozen” look that’s a clear indication you’ve had work done.  You not only want someone who has years of experience administering Botox; you want to work with a professional who can help you achieve your desired results.

Botox parties may sound like fun at first, but don’t risk putting your health into the wrong hands.  Make sure you only get Botox injections at a plastic surgery practice from an established professional.  At Accent Plastic & Reconstructive Surgery in Tupelo, MS, board-certified plastic surgeon Dr. Mark Craig and his staff can help you achieve a subtle yet youthful appearance with expert Botox injections.

Can’t Stop Sweating? Here’s Your Answer

Khrom-Blog-ImageCan’t Stop Sweating? Here’s Your Answer

Summer may almost be over – but if you can’t stop sweating no matter what time of year it might be, you might be desperate for answers.

Excessive sweating – also known as hyperhidrosis – is caused by overactive sweat glands that don’t respond normally to your body’s attempts to regulate heat via sweating.  Your body uses sweating as a way to control its internal temperature, which helps keep your organs healthy and happy.  With excessive sweating, your sweat glands are misinterpreting your body’s attempts to regulate your core temperature.

The end result could be excessive sweating in your underarms, hands, feet, and other body parts.  Those who suffer from hyperhidrosis may feel embarrassed by their condition and avoid normal social interactions.

Fortunately, there’s a treatment out there that can help put a stop to excessive sweating – and it isn’t found in a pharmacy or in the anti-perspirant aisle.

The answer can be found at Accent Plastic & Reconstructive Surgery in Tupelo, Mississippi – and that answer is Botox.

Surprised?  Don’t be.  While Botox is often regarded as one of the most popular anti-wrinkle treatments on the market, the FDA recently approved it as a treatment for excessive sweating.  Botox blocks the abnormal messages being sent to your body’s sweat glands, which effectively turns off the glands’ ability to sweat.

The end result is dry skin that’s free from embarrassing sweat!

Botox is injected directly into the skin of the treatment area.  The procedure is done in-office, and doesn’t take very long to perform.  Your health insurance may even cover the cost of your Botox treatments; be sure to call your policy holder to ask about your coverage.

Clinical studies have shown cessation of sweating from six to seven months after treatment.  Like with any treatment, results may vary.

If you’re interested in putting an end to those embarrassing sweat stains – not to mention save on your dry cleaning bill! – it’s time to schedule a consultation with board-certified plastic surgeon Dr. Mark Craig at Accent Plastic & Reconstructive Surgery in Tupelo, MS today.

Botox: Who Is Too Young to Get It?

photodune-1792859-beautiful-healthy-woman-touching-her-skin-middle-aged-xsIf you have a suspicion that Botox is one of the most popular cosmetic treatments in the country, you’d be right – millions of people get Botox every year, with the number only steadily rising.  Surprisingly, the Botox boom isn’t just limited to older people with wrinkles and fine lines; many women and men in their 20s are getting Botox as part of a preventative anti-aging regimen.

While there’s compelling evidence to support that starting an early regimen of Botox can help stave off wrinkles a little while longer, it does bring up an interesting question:

How young is too young to get Botox?

It’s Not Always About Age

First, the short answer: Since the safety & effectiveness in patients younger than 18 is not established, we would not treat a patient who is younger than 18.

Other than that, there’s no particular age when you’re too young to get Botox.  Instead of using age as a gauge for your Botox candidacy, you should instead take a cue from any lines or wrinkles that might already be forming on your face.

Botox is commonly used to treat static lines, which are the lines and wrinkles that form as a result of repeated and dynamic facial expressions (such as crow’s feet, laugh lines, forehead frown lines, etc.).  While skin creams can help keep your skin moisturized, they can’t exactly stop the formation of these deep wrinkles.

That’s precisely where Botox comes in.  Injections of Botox can help inhibit the formation of these wrinkles, especially around the eyes and along the forehead.   Younger clients who are looking to prevent wrinkles typically need less Botox than older clients.

If you’re looking to undergo Botox treatments as a preventative measure against the formation of wrinkles and fine lines, it’s important to work with an experienced professional.  Since you will need less Botox, a Plastic Surgeon uses a conservative touch and artistic eye that ensures you prevent wrinkles without developing a “frozen” look.

If that is exactly what you are looking for, then it is time to schedule a consultation with Dr. Mark Craig at Accent Plastic Surgery in Tupelo, Mississippi.  Call (662) 377 – 6290 for more information.
