How Does a Facelift Work?
Facelifts don’t just smooth away wrinkles. They’re designed to remove unwanted fatty tissue, reposition shifting facial muscles, and remove excess skin for a younger look from the inside out. How Long Does a Facelift Take?
Facelifts take on average between 2-4 hours, but your particular time depends on how much customization is included in the treatment plan you and Dr. Craig have created. Our procedures are performed as outpatient procedures under general anesthesia for maximum patient comfort, and you should be free to go home the same day.
What Results and Downtime Can I Expect?
The bandaging, bruising, and swelling in the immediate aftermath of a facelift can be scary. Don’t panic. As your recovery continues, swelling subsides, and healing proceeds, you’ll note far less lax skin, fewer lines and wrinkles, the absence of any jowls you may have had, and an overall more youthful appearance in the weeks following your procedure. It may take several weeks for the swelling to wholly subside, but visible results will continue to improve over the next several months. It may take up to a year for your tissues to fully resettle into the more youthful, supple appearance you wish to achieve.
Downtime is also unique to each patient, depending on your pain threshold and your ability to rest and recuperate. Rushing your return to normal activities can actually cause setbacks, so it’s important to follow all post-operative instructions closely. Multiple procedures do not necessarily mean your recovery time is extended. Most patients return to work after 5-7 days of recovery, though those with more active jobs may require 2 or more weeks. Listen to your body as you heal, and as you feel ready, resume light exercise such as walking or cooking. You can expect to feel 100% recovered about 4-6 weeks after your facelift.
