Sun damage starts to appear 30-years or so after the initial damage is done. Many men and women start to see visible signs as early as their mid-40s. Sun damage can take the form of wrinkles, dark spots, or textural problems. Happily, there’s an entirely non-invasive treatment designed to improve skin health and help reverse years-worth of sun exposure.

At Accent Plastic & Reconstructive Surgery, we’re using powerful, yet gentle Lumecca treatments to safely and effectively combat sun-damaged skin. Treatments are quick, easy, and don’t require any downtime. Let’s take a closer look.

What is Lumecca?

Lumecca is a laser treatment that uses an advanced form of Intense Pulsed Light (IPL). The procedure addresses pigmented lesions within the skin that are typically caused by years of exposure to harmful UV-rays. Lumecca is a highly-customizable treatment that can help tackle individual problems while also improving overall texture and tone.

How to Prepare for Treatment?

Lumecca typically responds best to non-tanned skin. Patients should avoid tanning beds, sun-exposure, and self-tanning creams at least 1-month prior to treatment. Dr. Craig will speak with you about how you can prepare for an optimal outcome with Lumecca at the time of your initial consultation.

“Dr. Craig has performed surgery on me several times. He is the best doctor and the best surgeon. I have complete trust in him. His office staff are not only the most profesisonal, but also the kindest.”

How Does Lumecca Work?

Treatments are done in-office and typically take less than 1-hour to complete. Lumecca can safely be performed throughout the face and body. Your skilled specialist will guide the Lumecca handpiece over the treatment area to break up pigment within the skin and stimulate additional collagen production. Because the procedure is non-invasive, Lumecca is virtually painless with minimal side effects.

There is no downtime needed after Lumecca treatments. However, you can expect treated lesions to darken and flake about 24-hours post-procedure (that’s how you know treatment is working).

What Results Will You See?

Results can be seen in just a few days following your initial Lumecca treatment. Continued improvement will gradually occur for up to 2-weeks. The procedure produces long-lasting results thanks to additional collagen and elastin production. However, multiple treatment sessions may be needed to achieve your desired outcome.

While Lumecca is an ideal procedure for men and women with mild to moderate sun damage, it’s not for everyone. Some patients may benefit better from more invasive resurfacing treatments such as chemical peels. During your in-person consultation, Dr. Craig will assess your concerns and speak with you about your options in-depth.

“Dr. Craig is amazing. He is very skilled and gifted as a surgeon. His staff are caring and great to work with. I highly recommend Dr. Craig and his staff!”
